Also *sometimes* patients take things a little too literal. Such as wearing a boot. I’ve had patients wear their boot 24/7 for weeks on end where their foot reeeeeks cause they didn’t realize they could take it off to change a sock, or when they’re resting 😅

my aunt slipped while walking when she was 1 week out from shoulder surgery. she was wearing the sling, so she luckily couldnt move the arm to stop the fall... imagine if it was out of the sling, she wouldve rupture her cuff

Listen to your physiotherapist. As an occupational therapist, I see a lot of people with upper-arm injuries who followed their orthopedist’s instructions to the letter, kept their brace on all the time, and barely moved their arm. The consequences of that can actually be much worse than gently moving it from time to time. The muscles can atrophy, and your range of motion can become severely restricted. So definitely listen to your physiotherapist!

You need a new ortho. I work in an office and we tell people to take it out 48 hours after for gentle movement (mine was). Just have to wear the sling for the first 2 weeks for walking and sleeping.

I actually think the body by itself know when it’s okay to move a bit and when not

So the medical team should probably be on the same page, this is one reason patients are confused 🤣

I work ortho. I’m so tired of patients only listening to their PT when it’s completely opposite advice than the ortho docs 😭
