@crmnallyobsessed: A dramatic day in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial ended with the judge denying a defense request for a mistrial and sending jurors home early. Defense attorney Kevin Reddington sought the mistrial after prosecution rebuttal witness Dr. Kirk Heilbrun referenced Catholic beliefs during his testimony. Judge William Sullivan ruled the second "mortal sin" mention in as many weeks was inappropriate, instructed jurors to disregard it and warned prosecutors to keep religious doctrine out of the case. Before that interruption, Heilbrun testified that he diagnosed Clancy with bipolar II disorder and said she was experiencing depression, anxiety, insomnia and suicidal thoughts before the deaths of her three children. His conclusions differ sharply from prosecution expert Dr. Avram Mack, who testified that he found no evidence Clancy was bipolar or psychotic. The competing expert opinions go directly to the central question jurors will soon have to decide: whether Clancy was criminally responsible when she killed Cora, Dawson and Callan in January 2023. Testimony resumes Tuesday, with closing arguments expected later this week. #LindsayClancy #Massachusetts #CourtroomDrama

this entire tiktok cuts Dr. Heilbrun's testimony out of context? He affiliates what he said there with Lindsay's possible motivation. He mentions her catholic upbringing and how that could've influenced her mind during the infanticide she committed

I think the whole situation is b. S yes, the d a did not ask a question. However, they knew what was in his notes and powerpoint and what would be discussed, and they could have towed him to discard and or omit that part because it wasn't relevant to the case

She isn’t being tried in front of the church so it’s ridiculous that they keep bringing it up. And in any case, if she was truly psychotic in the eyes of the church she didn’t know what she was doing so wouldn’t be guilty of mortal sins-it’s basically the same as the legal defence of not guilty by reason of insanity

The jury has already been influenced by that, they are civilians for god sakes. So not appropriate.

The concept of mortal sin is a religious ideation which has no relevance whatsoever to a legal trial. The question was to make the witness uncomfortable & tantamount to bullying.
