As soon as you bring them home, rinse them really well in cold water. It washes off the ripening gas that they are exposed to at the end shipping. This was advice given to me from a retired produce manager.

Gun fact, put them in the fridge! The outside will turn brown but the inside stays fine for a week or 2 longer! Works best with organic

put them in the refrigerator when they are as ripe as you want them to be and they last so long. the peel may get brown but when you peel it the bananas are perfect

I've always found the opposite to be true. separating the. ripens them faster. If you seal the tops with plastic wrap they ripen slowly.

I also heard once that if you separate the bananas they won't ripen each other as fast. Maybe that is a myth though 😅
