@stephkenziex: Three years ago, I nearly lost my life because of a medical story that started before I was even born. I was born intersex, assigned male, and raised as a boy. What I didn’t know was that my childhood medical records already contained warnings, recommendations for estrogen around puberty, and instructions to remove gonadal tissue because of cancer risk. I never saw those records. I was never told. Years later, severe pain and endocrine failure finally uncovered the story I had been missing my entire life. For years, I thought I only had a transgender story. What I was missing was my own medical history. Intersex children deserve honesty, appropriate medical care, and eventually a voice in decisions about their own bodies.
