@petitewolverine: READ CAPTION LOL This is a much bigger conversation but coming from my experience as well as hearing it from other trans men/mascs and butches, that masculinity is not as welcome in queer spaces as others. “TOO” masculine in queer spaces has sent us back. I know by first glance, many trans mascs pass as a cis man, good for them, but because of that privilege, we are left out of common queer conversations and spaces. I’ll defend my queer community forever but these topics need to be talked about. I don’t feel like I fit in a lot in queer communities because of my masculinity. I’m definitely not the only one. #queer #masculinity #transmasc #butch #transman
I always feel SO bad for amab nonbinaries bc whenever I hear ‘Just girls and nonbinaries!!!’ I KNOW they mean afab

100% as soon as you’re seen as “too man” the bio essentialism of queer friendly spaces jumps out

If a trans man is too masculine, he's rejected by the queer community and told he benefits from "cis passing privilege". If a trans man is feminine, he's rejected by greater society for being an effeminate man or an "obvious" trans man. We lose no matter what.

‘Queer friendly’ places are so often actually ‘girls, gays, and theys’ which is actually ‘girls, afab nonbinary, and feminine gay guys’. Straight women are more welcome in gay bars than trans guys

“Queer friendly” just means afab and people who are genderqueer and don’t want to pass

you're so right (/g). people forget that cis men can also be queer men. people forget cis passing men can also be queer men. people forget that MEN can be queer. and because of that, trans men, trans mascs, butches, intersex people, non-binary people, ANYONE who looks too masculine us getting left out. masculine people & men can be queer and I'm so tired of being left out of the conversation

When I walked into the men’s restroom a man turned to his friends and loudly said, “Is that a girl or a (f slur)” and they all laughed and looked at me like I was supposed to laugh with them. I had already had a horrible week and that was just the cherry on top 😭

I’ve heard a lot of stories from masculine trans men regarding their experiences with queer “friendly” bars and it makes me think these spaces aren’t friendly at all. They seem very hostile if you aren’t feminine presenting, identify as a man or are amab whilst falling under the non-binary umbrella

As a trans guy whenever I say that I use he/they pronouns and say I’m a dude I only get called they even by other queer people, and when I say my identity they always say something like “oh I know some other nonbinary people I’m they are cool” and when I explain that I’m a trans MAN they will just ignore it

Being uncomfortable with yourself because you don’t have access to gender affirming care and not feeling seen being transmasc is horrible, but then realizing that even if you suddenly had access and “passed” you’ll still be othered in some way in your own community is another type of pain man 😭
