I stopped watching towards the end of the first season. It was so boring! Most of the show was exposition dumps, the lotus casino was so incredibly disappointing. I don’t think Rick can screenwrite

It's simple: the pace isn't good, and there is basically no action. It runs like a political drama when it should feel like an action-adventure coming-of-age story. 🤷♂️

I think a big factor is that this series (Disney) has also failed to merchandise this show. As much as I hate it, merch does a ton of lifting in fandoms because it starts more conversation. On top of everything else, the lack of investment into merch shows me Disney wasn’t willing to fully back the show to give it the best shot

No because it’s weird how despite arguably being an even worser adaptation the films are somehow more culturally relevant? Like the Medusa iPod scene + the entirety of the Lotus Hotel w/ Poker Face playing had a longstanding presence in pop culture somehow

Not to mention, a lot of the show exclusive fans tend to get EXTREMELY defensive at the slightest bit of criticism, like why are we being called book purists when we say we would like the show advertised to be book accurate,,, to be book accurate?? Majority just seem to be kids who fancy the kids in the cast and don't care ab any plot

Tbh I wish they had made an animated series, it would give so much more room to make gods and monsters larger and grander while also not having as much time crunch with actors needing to be “age accurate” throughout the series run

literally the only thing I really remember about the 1st season is Percy flossing cuz that was the only time I went "yep, that's exactly what an 11yo would be doing" and also Lance Reddick (rip) being there. the rest I need to actually sit down and think to remember.

Girl, look, I'm sorry you're in a negativity echo chamber. If you actually look at how Disney is treating Percy Jackson and the Olympians, it's clear the company views it as a huge draw and a major success. Recent things like giving it a large scale activation at San Diego Comic Con, live streaming the panel for it at D23, and placing it front and center alongside the likes of Zootopia, Toy Story, The Devil Wears Prada 2, etc. in marketing and for backgrounds of keynote speaches all suggest Disney considers it one of it's big IPs they want to keep centered since it's a draw. If the show were a flop, it simply wouldn't get expensive promotion like the interactive experiences, or get one of only six or seven live streamed panel slots, period. It's clearly proven to be a big draw, a good example being it's most recent teaser trailer for season 3 having more views across most platforms than any other upcoming series trailer from D23 (I believe it's over 46M across platforms now and still climbing), it was the second most watched Disney+ series in the first half of this year overall, it's won tons of awards, and has a very good critical and fan reception outside of the loud, vocal minority of people who, based on how they talk, don't remember or even like the books anymore, who would have you believe the boatloads of positive press and huge amount of engagement don't exist because they disagree with and ignore it. Does any of that guarantee a fourth and fifth season? No, anything could happen theoretically, but it does suggest you aren't being all that objective here...

the reason the show isn’t as good is because they’ve written the characters to already know the threats they’re up against, which makes sense in universe but the book has them figure a lot of it out on their own, they don’t immediately know the myth and how they should deal with threats but they figure it out and then connect it to the myths

I remember someone saying how it feels like Rick simply doesn’t know how to adapt something into a TV show format, whilst also as he’s the original author it’s like he’s constantly trying to “fix” his original writinZ

they messed up the aesthetic so bad and made it too modern. it was supposed to give Greek Narnia essentially or like the odyssey (not the new one) in terms of aesthetic but instead im seeing them on a Disney cruise and everything looks so plasticy....and why have all the fantasy creatures been cut out, poorly portrayed or given 3 secs of screentime?? the cast is carrying this show so hard rn
