Every single time I pay someone to take pictures of me I am so disappointed I want to chop my head off. Selfies are 1 out of 10 but I like the mirror 8 times out of 10. I don’t get it.

You’re not ugly. Cameras are not eyes. They distort what they take photos of. Some people (me included) have features that cameras struggle to capture. You and I both have deep set eyes, and those are really hard to capture well in downcast light. We can look like corpses if we aren’t careful. I’ve had actual photographers comment on this when I’ve been photographed. So I had to learn how to advocate for proper lighting and that I have good angles and bad angles. When I hit my angles correctly, the picture is fine, when I don’t, I look like bridge troll who wants your first born child. Conversely, I have friends who look stunning in photos and normal in person, so I think it can go both ways.

I learned it’s bc whenever a photo is being taken of me I’m anticipating not liking it. So in the picture I’m always making a weird face bc I’m anticipating the anxiety and shame. I’ll “pose” like this 🫠 and ofc the pic doesn’t look good bc I look uncomfortable af

You’re not ugly. I’d give you a double take on the street. One time I came out of the restroom at a concert and my mind was elsewhere- when I looked in the mirror I saw a gorgeous woman. It was me. Meanwhile, day to day, I see myself in mirrors, in pictures, videos, etc I’m like “ew, you look weird and old.” Wtf. I wish I could always see myself like I did that day at the concert. It was like bc I didn’t realize it was me at first I was able to look at myself objectively? Idk if that makes sense?
