@emilykight: 3 painfully hard truths I’ve learned after losing 40lbs 1. You have to stick with the boring basics. Boring meals, boring workouts, getting to bed early, limiting alcohol, etc. Staying consistent with the boring basics will do so much for you. 2. Balance doesn’t get you the results you want. I’m not saying you have to be psycho or obsessive about it all, but if you’re constantly treating your weekends like something you earned, you’re not going to get the results you want. 3. You can’t have the results without the lifestyle. Meaning, if your habits don’t reflect the results you want to see, you’re not going to achieve them. You have to show up as the person you want to become before you become it.

I learned whatever weight you think you need to lose…it’s more😫 also as a tall girl no one will notice weightloss and you will still wear the same size. I lost 35lbs and the only clothing difference was bra cup size 🤦🏼‍♀️

My biggest struggle is dinner with the kids. Do you make a whole separate dinner for them or make them eat boring too?

I’ve learned some painful ones on my journey too. 180 pounds gone. I think the hardest is telling my brain I’m not fat anymore. It’s a real mental battle even once the weight is gone. Keep fighting

Booze is the number one issue. It totally messes up metabolism. Cutting that down was the only way I could start finally losing. Gotta go green now (fight off the munchies with water)

I don’t eat anything boring. I just eat the same high protein meals that fit my macros. That’s it. You don’t have to eat boring food.

This is so true. I’m down 170 lbs maintaining at 200 but everytime I try to “balance” not meal prep as much or drink scale spikes 10-15 lbs over two weeks.

Alcohol is the biggest hinder to weight loss but it’s a hard truth. It’s hard to keep the consistency when alcohol is in the mix. You are more likely to eat worse or more and skip workouts and your sleep is trash

One thing I learned that people who you thought were your friends will inevitably fall off and then call you selfish. And that you only think about yourself, girl I’m single. I am the only one I have to worry about. Mind you the last time I saw her I was dropping off a brand new Fisher-Price picnic table for her daughter…. But yeah, I’m super selfish. When you are not fat, sad and lonely, waiting for their call to help them watch their dog for the week, once you get your own life going again, and you have possibilities and things to do that “friend” we’ll do anything to bring you back now.

I want to emphasize that the only thing she is wrong about here is the boring meals. You can do plenty as long as you stick to your calories. I like a flexible framework, but you have to actually track the calories. Rules: .8-1g protein per lbs of body weight. Eat 700 calories under maintenance during weekdays and you can treat yourself by eating at maintenance on weekends. For every 100 calories of additional cardio you do (1 mile is roughly 100 calories) you can have another 100 calories. That is very small, 1 Costco cookie is 250 calories, 1 snickers bar is about 250 calories. And lift weights, whatever you lift now, try to lift more weight every week. This is how you help make sure the weight you lose is fat. This applies to both men and women. How to find maintenance. Track your weight for 7 days straight. Track your calories strictly for those 7 days (helps for first week to eat the same thing) see how it impacted your weight, always weighing in the morning after using bathroom before eating. There are 3500 calories in a 1lbs of fat. If you gained .5lbs, over the week, whatever your average calories for the day, you were roughly 1750 cals over for all 7 days of tracking or 250 per day. Say you averaged 1800 because you were trying, well actually your base level is 1550. That’s your maintenance. People’s maintenance is lower than you think most people aren’t that active. While you track for this week don’t do additional cardio you want to keep things as consistent as possible. That’s the most important week, actually getting your baseline and not guessing. Going forward, weigh yourself 3x per week. Take the average. That’s your weeks number. Good luck
