@drdeborahparenting: Your child refuses the dinner you've made. You followed the system: you let them decide whether to eat and you kept dinner the same. But this is a food they dislike. This is where many parents change the meal that is already on the table after the child says, "I don't like this," or refuses to eat it. Now refusing that dinner produces a different meal that night. Here's what to do instead. Continue letting your child decide how much they eat from the food that was served. If they choose not to eat, dinner still ends at the normal time and the next food comes at the next planned eating time. If your child rejects a specific food, use that information when planning future meals instead of changing the meal on the table. Follow me for more parenting systems that show you when to hold the structure, and how to build it around the way your home runs. #PurposedParenting #ParentCoach #ParentSupport #ParentingCommunity #ParentingOS #ParentingTips
I told my 4 children if you don’t like what is for dinner- breakfast is at 7am, you won’t starve ✨

no ma'am no ma'am in my house we all select our dinners or lunches or breakfast is that way we all eat what we enjoy and yes we do have to have food that we don't particularly like but it's healthy. we never go so far as to have to threaten or show them whose boss or be Stern we have a more laid back enjoyable life for all of us and apparent does not have to intimidate their child. but we do teach the lesson that you don't always get what you want and you don't always have to like what you have. but I do not let my child put their hand in the fire to learn it's hot I tell them that it is hot and if you put your hand in there it's going to get burnt I don't let my child learn from experience if it's going to be painful.

In my home growing up if there was a meal I knew I would not eat I had the option to make my own. She kept three choices in the freezer. I had to make it myself, sit down with the family and eat. We were never not allowed to say “I don’t like that”. Obviously we were older but I appreciated that.

Or just ask what your kid wants. Make something the whole family will like.

I made a championship of food, where they have points ( decided beforehand) if they either eat, partial y eat or skippong the meal, and they also have extra points if they taste things they do not like. We have a score table that we update daily. There are also malus ( always decided beforehand)that can remove points. They are well aware of what gives point and what not. At the end of the championship we have the Awards Ceremony. I hand craft the medals. I can promise I've never seen children eating / tasting things they claim not to like.

if my daughter doesn't eat dinner i think about what shes eaten during the day, if shes eaten a decent amount and plenty of fruit and veg I don't worry too much and just give her a yoghurt (which she would have had if she finished her dinner too) I'm lucky it happens rarely and she rarely rejects it completely, just has a couple bites and then finishes.

your lessons are like "see? I told you". I agree with everything you teach and I hope more women can learn from you. and especially my wife and my mother.

No, intransigence is not virtuous. This is a family meal, not a prison chow hall.
