After 23 years of marriage, I was more or less told by him today, indirectly, that he is not coming back and that, for him, there is no going back. And that is exactly why I feel like I mean absolutely nothing to him. He has known this woman for only five weeks, yet he comes home with his bags packed and tells me that he is leaving me because he can no longer imagine his life without her. He is throwing away our entire life together — 23 years, our marriage, our home, everything we built together — for someone he has known for just five weeks. To me, this is simply impossible to understand and incredibly painful.
