@nourishingapothecary: What are the best supplements for depression? This is a question I get asked a lot, but supplements should never be positioned as a replacement for appropriate mental health care or prescribed medication. There are, however, nutrients and herbal medicines that have been studied as adjunctive support for mood and mental health. In this video I talk through some of the options I consider, including omega-3 fatty acids, magnesium, L-theanine, saffron and St John’s wort, as well as why nutrition needs to form part of the foundation. A really important caveat: these aren’t appropriate for everyone. St John’s wort in particular has significant medication interactions, including with antidepressants, and supplements should be considered in the context of the individual rather than simply added to a stack. And if you’re already taking medication, please don’t stop or alter it based on something you see online. Speak with your prescribing practitioner. If you’d like personalised naturopathic support, our practitioners at Nourishing Apothecary consult Australia-wide via Zoom. You can book a free Find the Right Practitioner discovery call and we’ll match you with the practitioner best suited to what you’re experiencing. nourishingapothecary.com #Depression #MentalHealth #Naturopathy #MentalHealthSupport #Omega3
