To deny yourself and to carry your cross, means to deny your OWN will, and follow God’s will. Which it does mean to deny your own passions, dreams, desires etc. anything that does not allow for God to fulfill his will through you. It’s good to pick up our bibles and to stop listening to people online.

No, it is to deny your sinful desires. Not necessarily what you love and enjoy, but things that aren’t of Him that are in your life. You deny your flesh the things of this world it wants, that you know is sinful and wrong.

If we submit every thought to Christ, we’ll realize some desires, emotions, etc. are healthy and others are not. We can’t demonize everything because he designed us a specific way and that will vary by person. Christianity often doesn’t honor differences which is sad because it ignores how God uniquely made each of us.

Yea I agree with the main point you're trying to make. I think there can be this urge that people have to want to create Christian clones of each other when we disciple. We try to mold people to be the "type" of Christian that we are or our favorite Christian influencer. We want all of our Preachers to be like Anthony mitchell. We want all of our Christian artists to be like forrest frank. we want all of the influencers to be like our favorite Christian influencer. and when they don't fit that mold we question their Christianity. but God created us all uniquely. some Preachers will sound more like teachers. some preachers will have more fire. some artists will sound more humble and some will sound more passionate. some Christians will quote bible verses all the time on social media and some may rarely post about it. all of them can still be Christian. as long as we are following His word all of it is grace.

Joshua 1:9 & 10 is actually speaking of a heart without God. Man at its state of abandoning God for sin! The book of proverbs tells us that a righteous man submits the ways (desires) of his heart unto the Lord and he guides his steps! God didn’t give us desires and passions for no reason at all! We must walk in them with the intent of glorifying God and his Kingdom through them! Very misunderstood concept in the bible for sure, glory to God for showing this to you!

God works in mysterious ways that we humans will never fathom. God will put his people in places that maybe some Christians think they shouldn’t be but that’s when the lost need someone for help and through the person, God has placed, they will find Jesus 🥰🙏🏽

As a pk, I relate to this so much. Once I hit my mid 20’s I realized a lot of my “relationship w God” was me piggy backing off of my parents faith. I’ve been able to deconstruct my faith and see things for myself

I think it’s good to contemplate what it means to follow Christ, not just blindly believing everything we were taught, but by renewing our minds with scripture. I wouldn’t say that having certain desires or goals or talents is inherently wrong, but I would ask what has authority over them? Sometimes following Christ will mean surrendering something I deeply want and other times it will mean using that gift or desire in a way that brings Him glory rather than making myself the center of it. Allowing God's revealed Word to shape our hearts, desires, and understanding. “Incline my heart to your testimonies, and not to selfish gain!” - Psalms 119:36
