Ironically, there's a middle eastern immigrant in NYC that's feeding the hungry, clothing the poor, helping the sick and reforming prisons, but Christians hate the guy and call it evil. Also ironically, people that are so excited to be seen and cared for are saying he saved Spiderman, appearing in their dreams to vanquish the nightmares, lining the streets to see or touch him. What if 2,000 years ago, people were just referencing Greek mythology (the Marvel Universe of their time) to express their excitement (yo, Jesus was at a wedding and turned water into wine!) and divinity was just a cultural mistranslation that got into the wrong hands.... because if you make such a man a god, then his actions are unattainable to humans, and faith is no threat to power compared to action.

Doug Wilson needs to read Luther’s , Freedom of a Christian, where Luther writes a Christian is an utterly free person, lord of all, subject to no one. A Christian is an utterly dutiful person, servant of all, subject to all. For Luther the paradox of Christian freedom is played out in faith and love. By faith alone, God sets me utterly, completely, free in Christ. I’m lord of all, subject to none. Love binds me as an utterly dutiful servant to my neighbour, subject to all. But, I don’t think anyone can change Doug Wilson’s mind; maybe love can.

The Christian definition of freedom assumes if I’m not a god believer then my life must be miserable, but that’s not the case for me. That’s a false dilemma. I’m pretty much happy where I’m at. And if a sincere believer struggles with an addiction as a non believer, what work is the believer’s attachment to god doing??

As someone who has argued with Wilson (nearly 20 years ago!) about the possibility of Christian social democracy, his mind will never be changed because it would mean giving up control and admitting he is wrong. But keep bearing witness. Those with ears will hear.

Wilson knows all of this, he’s very smart! He just believes in a hierarchy that puts him on top more than any of that Kingdom of Heaven stuff. He’s just fundamentally a liar who thinks Revelation 21:8 is untrue.
