if they scratch on it you take them to where they are allowed to scratch and show them with your nails or use their paws.

Spray bottle if they start scratching, I’ve used it once on my boy and I don’t even have to spray it anymore anytime he does something he isnt suppose to i just go to grab the bottle and he stops immediately

Trim their nails regularly. A big part of scratching is them trying to maintain their own claws. If you can help maintain their claws then some of the scratching will stop

You should get those side couch car scratchers on where you’ll think they’ll scratch based on its orientation there are some nicer looking ones online

i found this works well for my cat, you just spray this on whatever you don’t want them scratching. doesn’t smell the best, but i’d rather smell this than my furniture destroyed. i also use catnip spray on his scratchers/towers/toys to try and encourage him to go towards them instead.

Kmart has plastic pieces that attach to the lounge so they won’t scratch it but if they scratch the tree/post then they shouldn’t start but I’d advise to get to stuff from Kmart/Temu

You can get scratcher material to stick on the couch, we used it for a while after getting a new couch to protect it and it worked

hang an old blanket over the arm rests so that if they do start they won’t be ruining the new couch, it’ll just be the blanket. and keep their claws trimmed so less damage

we bought a square of carpet, stapled it to the corners of the couch and they just scratch that up. It doesn't look damaged or anything even after a year of being scratched up and it keeps the couch safe 🤷♀️

Something like this on the corners and put throw blankets over the other parts they won’t scratch the blankets that’s what I do for one of my couches (they’ve ruined the uncovered one😅) and also re directing them to their own scratchers when they do it 🥰
