The lesson was a good one, she just should have used the blue bear

She was trying to teach theory of mind. She could have done this without humiliating a kindergartener for the benefit of the rest.

Not really related, but within the same premise. I once had a friend tell me not to tell my children to stay where I could see them. Because the children did not know where I could see. Instead, I tell my children to stay where they can see me.

There is an experiment to explain something similar involving a crayon box and candles and no humiliated children

This is called the theory of mind and should be developed in kids aged 4-5. At what age did this happen in school?

Psych studies say kids should have theory of mind by school age. It’s very confusing that the whole class wouldn’t.

I feel like she could have taught this much better and explained to the class what was about to happen first so you did not feel like the butt of a joke. Also by giving the other kids that laugh probably meant the lesson did not stick.

She used you as the lesson , To teach perspective. But you got humiliated. You are so brave to push past that and see the lesson she was teaching.

I remember being in kindergarten. We were standing in line and my friend in front of me started coughing. I patted him on the back to help with the cough, like I learned all my little life. When he gained composure he told the teacher I was hitting him, and I got scolded. Learning different people have different perspective is a funny thing.

IIRC psychologists call this a theory of mind test

Some additional context too, this is a classic child development experiment, usually called the sally-anne test. It tests if children have developed "the theory of mind." The child is showing this scenario and asked where they think Sally will look, it's used to know if the child has developed the understanding that Sally has an alternative perspective then their own

These kinds of lessons, learned in kindergarten or school, are often more important and valuable in our adult lives than what we actually learned in the classroom.

that's why there is no such thing as "your truth" there is (the) truth and your perspective.

This is a gifted lesson based on Theory of the Mind. She picked you because she suspected you’re gifted. The recall of your lesson proves her suspicion correctly.
