we also have to remember that what we call "democracy" is prefixed with the term "liberal." Liberal democracy is only 1 out of the nearly 200 types of democracy. You could argue that China practices a form of democracy as well, but because it isn't liberal democracy, people don't consider it as such

China has been beating us for over 20 years. back in the 2000s the news would talk about how China was beating us in education. They dont even say that anymore because they smoked us. its not a competition. We lost years ago.

we haven't actually had democracy anyways. The voters choosing what they want actually requires them to be informed and consistent. It also requires further choice. we have to many "single vote" systems and that's not a high quality vote, it's akin to a hostage negotiation. when you go to the grocery store, do you only buy one kind of food at a time? and in bulk? voting needs to also be overhauled.
