This is also why govt gave us CDC vouchers. We always think how much we get, spend how much… but did not think about the small business (shop, stall etc) gaining from it. One very good example is during PM Wong coffeeshop walk about, talked to a customer. Customer said with cdc voucher, he now can order an additional fish dish. PM Wong replied back, the fish monger too benefited from it as one additional fish was sold.

the same people who kpkb about everything is expensive and they have left with little disposable income are probably the same ones who sold their VTO after MOP, make a windfall and upgraded their housing and service staff bigger loan.
And they have slso contributed to hiking up housing price.

it's not wrong to say it circulates but it is also true that it is taken from another portion of the budget that could have gone into other areas that benefit different groups of people, aka the singles.

😂a lot of viewers have commented that all these benefits come from taxpayers’ money. I think some of you may have lost sight of what an average working Singaporean actually pays in personal income tax.
For someone earning around the median income of roughly S$66,000–S$70,000 a year, annual personal income tax is typically in the range of about S$1,000–S$3,000, depending on CPF reliefs, deductions and other circumstances. And around 40% of workers pay no personal income tax at all, because of the tax-free threshold and available reliefs.
So yes, public benefits are funded by taxpayers—but Singapore’s tax system is progressive, and the average worker is not personally funding the entire system. It’s misleading to suggest otherwise.
If we want to debate public spending, let’s do it based on facts rather than assuming every taxpayer is a wealthy person paying huge amounts of tax.

I think its great that soon-to-be parents and current parents will benefit from the policy changes. And that will (and should) always be my stance on that. But it’s just this disquieting sense of “when is it my turn” when i look at what has and will be done for me as a gay person (who can’t marry or have kids or bto) when I go into the workforce. It’s never a competition of who gets more benefits, but waiting for something that doesn’t seem like it’ll get handed to me makes it much harder to stay rooting for Singaporeans.

If the money is spend you’re right the money is just being redistributed in the same economy. But, if the money is saved and not spent it doesn’t work.

Economic illiteracy is widespread.... leasehold land not best example though. Just long term rent that benefits the early renters and penalises the new. Always a contentious issue...

Singapore has gone through many similar programs over the years. The reason they have to keep coming up new ones is because the past ones have failed. So the question is what makes this new scheme going to succeed? Extra childcare leave? Extra 2000 per year? Extra BTO ballot chance? I feel the scheme looks good on PR. But wouldn’t a guaranteed BTO chance be better than an extra BTO ballot ? People want see their life being different in the next 1-3 years and not a period over 15-18 years projection.

the country is becoming more expensive because people's salaries are constantly increasing as well, the higher the salary, the higher the spending power, hence prices needs to keep increasing to keep up
