Josh Romyn 🇨🇦 :
I don’t think those paintings show that Orpheus was such a POOR BOY.

Andy :
the original tale of orpheus and eruydice was about hubris not doubt. He was allowed to hold her hand, but he was one foot out of the underworld and she was still inside the underworld. His eagerness is what caused her damnation. The idea that orpheus was a tragic hero plagued with doubt is mostly a modern interpretation of the tale. Even back in the 1920’s Orpheus in the Underworld was a comedic tragedy because of his hubris (Orpheus in the Underworld is actually where the Can Can melody is originally from)

I saw him beat my Les Mis kids who were also up for Lead Actor at Ken Page Awards. He was so deserving. We are doing Hadestown this year. Guess we will see how that goes.

Doug Weaver dropping the painting equivalent of a diss track on ancient works of art because he doesn’t think their backgrounds were lore accurate was… not on my 2026 bingo card

We’re so proud of Langston! He’s one of our kiddos and we love him and we’ll never stop bragging about him. 🥰

SecondStorySTL :
What a cool story of artists inspiring another artist! Also, I’d add that the Jimmy awards are like the super bowl of musical theater for high school students!! Two kids from each local competition get to go to New York for a week to compete with the best of the best. And Langston is one of the best!

Langston is basically a superstar in the STL youth theatre world. 🤩 I’ve seen him in many shows, including both Hadestown performances, and he is absolutely amazing! He was actually a finalist at the Jimmy Awards, which is insanely impressive. Out of 116 kids, only 8 made it to the final round.

LOVE this idea! You should check out a video on IG where the lady theorized that the story is about grief. It is a stunning take and worth incorporating into your painting, I’m going to find it and send it to you on IG!
