A person I know told that recently she went to a famous Jeju BBQ restaurant. When she finished her meal, it was late. The restaurant owner asked her if she was going back to hotel by taxi, car or walk. She said its close so she just walked there. The owner insisted on driving her back because its was late, then while she was driving, she told the girl that missing cases of tourists were rising a lot in Jeju. Most of them were tourists, it was not safe and tourists were easy to be recognized. Obviously that restaurant owner was famous for driving tourist home.

Well... as usual. The officials are probably already bribed by the criminals, especially when the criminals come from rich and powerful families.

According to Korean media, it was later discovered that the police officer, Bu, had lied about contacting the woman, and that she was safe. He also claimed the woman said she did not want to be contacted. The officer then closed the case. No record of any call between Jang and Bu was found. The officer was arrested but was released following a court order citing it as unlawful.

Officer A was also revealed to have previously falsely concluded missing person cases using the same method. The family of the missing person in that case re-reported to the police after Ms. Jang’s case was reported in the media, and the individual was found dead on August 22.
