Not a most common opinion but i really like lords of the fallen because it was closest to dark souls games and did not try do create a new thing (except the umbral world which was okay, not perfect, but okay)

Wuchang was pretty good, thought the last area was a little ehh but decent game. Lies of p is really good up until kop. DLC was really good though imo.

souls likes will never reach the quality of fromsoft. but mortal shell 2 is a good souls like. so far the second half wasn't boring for me. it's 1000x better than the first one and probably better than lords of the fallen.

While I 100% do agree that most, if not all soulslikes misunderstand the appeal of souls games. Being nothing but grey, drab and hard for the sake of being hard. I vehemently disagree with your take on Mortal Shell 2. the main thing I enjoy about it is exactly that it isn’t difficult for the sake of being difficult. At absolutely no point I felt frustrated or got annoyed by artificial difficulty. Especially with how powerful you get in the second half, the game gets almost too easy. And the world is also extremely varied and beautiful. Obviously nothing as outstanding as something made by fromsoft. But still very beautiful and distinct. Especially for a team of only 30 people.

L take, it's okay to like fromsoft as a developer but dismissing other soulslikes especially Lies of P and Khazan just because they were made by someone else is a huge mistake

Nioh is the only soulslike I absolutely love. Everything else just gets things wrong, animations feel floaty. There's no impact feeling when struck or when striking in Mortal Shell. The first hour was great but once I reached the exploration map, I just can't be bothered, the story seems interesting though.

thank you for mentioning the "hitting with a weapon" feel. i have this issue with every single major soulslike that exists, even with lies of p. I dont know if its that hard to make it correctly. Games like fallen order or witcher 3 did it right.
