@unapologeticallyafter: Cancer is lonely in the obvious ways. The appointments. The treatment rooms. The fear. The way everyone else gets to go home and continue their normal life while yours is suddenly measured in bloodwork, scans, and side effects. But life after cancer? That loneliness is quieter. It’s sitting at dinner while everyone talks about vacation plans and you’re silently wondering if you’ll be healthy enough to make your own. It’s people assuming you’re “back to normal” because your treatment ended, or your scans look good. It’s smiling when someone says, “You must be so relieved,” because explaining the fear would take too much energy. It’s being surrounded by people and still feeling like nobody fully understands the version of you that came out the other side. Cancer changes your body. But life after cancer changes your sense of safety. And that part can feel impossible to explain. If you’re in the after and feeling lonelier than you expected, you’re not wrong. You’re not ungrateful. You’re not dramatic. You’re healing from something that didn’t end just because treatment did. #lifeaftercancer #postcancerjourney #cancersurvivor #breastcancersurvivor #womenaftercancer #healingaftercancer #cancercommunity #survivorship

After going through cancer you actually see who is real in your group of friends! I am enjoying being by myself, they slowed me down and I am actually doing what I always wanted to do.

Three years since surgery. On estrogen blockers. Very lonely indeed. I don’t speak of this, but I’m grateful to be here but the scars and lack of estrogen…lonely. Also… when is this going to come back????

So true, when treatment ends and the appointments stop the emptiness rushes in and even loved ones cant help fill it. The grief for whats been lost is crushing.

I was doing fine for a while… then two years after treatments and surgeries have ended… I’ve come in glued.. Only people who have been through it understand.. Your family don’t even get it… You win one war to find yourself on a mental battle… it’s hard going. I for one completely understand and agree ❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹

You know that is just so right. I did three years of chemo, husband died the first year I was doing chemo. And now I’m 69 years old and can’t figure out where I’m going or anything. I will say that chemo ruined my body. My skin is not the same, the fatigue and the lack of strength. And now they’re telling me it might be back. I don’t know if I can go through chemo or not.

So true! Treatment ends and you are expected to be your pre-cancer self…but you aren’t. You can’t be. You are still scared with all the new what ifs. Every new scan, bloodcheck is a potential risk of hearing the verdict again…and thinking Would I have the strength and luck again? Most of us go through these for at least five years. BUT I promise to everyone struggling it really gets better - slowly…sometimes you take two steps forward and a few weeks later four back…and then six forward again…The worries soften the further you go…and one day you do feel that relief you long for. Lots of love to all going through this! 🥰
