For anyone wondering. Our family now lives in Auckland. But I had my babies in AZ. The first one cost us around $2,000ish. The second was closer to $5,000 because I had complications. Every little thing adds up lol. we had insurance. So all the costs were after insurance.

My son was born by emergency c-section in 1994. My wife had preeclampsia. She was in intensive care for a week. My son 28 weeks 1lb 12 oz, 3 months in NICU, PICU and SCBU. we paid nothing. Didn't even have to pay for parking back then. Had hernia operations later. Free.

Because you pay in America, is/would the care and service be of a higher standard than here in Aotearoa?

I also notice everyone gets an epidural, here you are expected to tough it out and it’s generally only administered if there’s issues going on and it’s taking too long
