Sounds precisely like Pilonidal cyst and will not heel without excision surgery. I am so sorry but staying stuck in this holding pattern will only result in more suffering without progression to heeling.

Does not make sense for them to give you a colostomy to let the downstairs area just heal. Do whatever surgeries need to be done and give it a rest.

Sounds like HS had one on my tail bone 3 times had two ops got them in the groin and under my chest and under my arms feel for you

Are you able to see a colorectal surgeon? Have you had an MRI to see if you have a perianal fistula and have you looked into seton drains? Pls reach out if you want to have a chat.

if it is a hernia, ask for a Choose & Book referral to your nearest private hospital, the NHS pays & you will get seen quicker

They should have swabbed it and sent off to see if it’s an infection, or could it be one but hadn’t healed and with over granulation it’s just burst, I had one tiny bit that didn’t heal as well and there was yellow stuff called slough but she said it was part of skin healing you worry if it smells. Well it did burst but with cleaning again it did heal by itself without antibiotics

Husband had this for just over a year. It was a fistula due to crohns. Had surgery and now has seton in for life as it’s a complex fistula. Take care of yourself. Sue.
