I used to think everyone was afraid of their basement. The dark stairs. The weird noises. The feeling that something was watching you. Then one night… My dad gave me one strange rule. “If you ever go down to the basement after dark…” ”…don’t come back up until you hear me call your name.” I laughed. “What if you’re asleep?” He looked at me for a second. Then quietly said, “That’s exactly why.” ⸻ A few weeks later… The power went out during a thunderstorm. My phone was almost dead. The breaker box was in the basement. My parents were out shopping. So I grabbed a flashlight. And went downstairs. ⸻ The basement was completely silent. I flipped the breaker. The lights upstairs came back on. I sighed with relief. Then… I heard my dad’s voice. From the top of the stairs. “Everything okay?” I smiled. “Yeah!” I started walking up. Then I remembered the rule. My parents weren’t home. ⸻ I froze. The voice came again. “Come on.” “We’re waiting.” It sounded exactly like him. Every word. Every laugh. Every little cough. ⸻ I slowly backed away from the stairs. The basement suddenly felt colder. Then I heard my mom. “What’s taking so long?” Followed by my little sister. “Hurry up!” All three voices were upstairs. Talking to each other. Like my family had just gotten home. ⸻ My phone buzzed. It was a text from my dad. “Still at the grocery store.” “We’ll be home in 20 minutes.” My blood ran cold. I looked back toward the stairs. Someone was standing at the top. I couldn’t see their face. Only a silhouette. They slowly raised one hand. And waved me upstairs. ⸻ Then… It spoke again. This time… In my own voice. “It’s okay.” “I already checked.” ⸻ The basement door slowly slammed shut. The light above the stairs turned off. My flashlight flickered. Then another voice echoed from the darkness behind me. Soft. Barely a whisper. “Don’t turn around.” I stood completely still. The thing at the top of the stairs laughed. “So…” “If I’m up here…” “…who’s standing behind you?” My flashlight went out. For five long seconds… I heard breathing. Right against the back of my neck. ⸻ The basement light suddenly came back on. The room was empty. The door upstairs was wide open. My parents were standing in the kitchen. Like they’d just gotten home. I ran upstairs and slammed the basement door shut. My dad looked confused. “Why are you so pale?” I tried to explain. He didn’t say anything. He just walked over to the basement door. Locked it. Then quietly whispered… “It almost got you to answer.” I frowned. “What do you mean?” He looked at me with a terrified expression. Then asked one question. ”…Who told you my rule?” #fyp #viral #scarytiktoks #scary #scarystories
