i AM this woke. the entire meat and dairy industry is ROOTED in patriarchal structures and the idea that men are strong for sustaining us. EVERYTHING can be tied back to this. It reminds me similarly to how lesbians are told that they are missing out or can be “fixed”

my coworker the other day gave me a caramel candy and I thought it was just sugar so I just ate it, later on he told me there was milk creme in them and I was like at least I now from now and he just smiled in my face and said " you're not vegan anymore!! haha !" , and all I could think about is how this can be compared to rape culture.

I’ve noticed in movies, shows, even books, there’s this trope of a girl giving up vegetarian/veganism for a guy. It’s always presented with the guy pressuring the girl to try it and she gives in with very little pushback, proclaiming how right they were. It bothers me so much that it’s always to appease a man that the character barely knows that makes them abandon their values and ethics when it comes to eating meat, as if their principles were so weak to begin with!! it is such a clear depiction of rape culture - the man really knows what the woman wants, and when she finally succumbs to the pressure, she’s actually better for it and has learned her lesson, why say no?

Absolutely. I was raised Vegetarian and the amount of people desperate to make me try it and give in, or even making jokes about giving it to me without my knowledge, I’ve always felt it had a strong tie to my personal choice, boundaries and consent

As a vegetarian, it’s always men who so badly want me to give in and just try it or insist I must really miss it/want it or ‘joke’ about tricking me into eating meat. Those men make me very uncomfortable because if they can’t even respect my dietary preferences then how can I believe they’ll respect any other boundaries I have.

My mom is vegetarian and my dad once tricked her into eating actual chicken noodle soup (they're divorced now don't worry). He never actually told her, he just eventually told me and presented it as like a "gotcha! see? she likes meat!" Ever since then, any plotline like this has pissed me tf off.
