Ken, with all due respect, the French you learned in Europe is very different from most of the French spoken in Canada. Quebecoise French is different enough that some words have quite different meanings (dejeuner, dîner etc.), while Acadian French in New Brunswick is a very beautiful mystery. 🥰

In Montreal most people speak English. Quebec City less. Rural Quebec they tend to get a bit pissed if you don’t speak French.
