Density. That’s is the answer. There is no such thing as an attractive force called gravity. An apple is denser than air. The air can’t support the apple. That’s why it falls. What are the primary elements that comprise air, nitrogen and oxygen. The atomic masses of oxygen and nitrogen are greater than masses of hydrogen or helium. That is why helium balloons are supported by nitrogen and oxygen. Just like a piece of wood can float on water. Same thing.

Floating a balloon is literally gravity in action,without gravity pulling the denser air down, there would be no upward buoyant force to push the balloon up and buoyancy literally has gravity in its equation

The belief is that gravity exerts a force which pulls two objects together (mg). But there’s also upthrust (pgV). It’s related to the density of the medium the object is in. For helium to float, the upthrust must be higher than the force due to gravity. This is why some things float in water. The same applies to any fluid, (including air). You said the lightest gasses are at the top of the atmosphere, and it’s for that exact reason. They’re less dense. It’s also the reason the helium balloons don’t just fly off forever. They reach a portion of air that’s equally as dense, so that mg = pgV. That’s the belief
