I’m a dietitian. Here’s how to calculate your protein + fiber needs based on the research. I put all the PMID in my video! Original video: @Jordan Syatt I listened to the full video and agree with his main point. We shouldn’t glorify one nutrient. We need carb., protein and fat, including fiber rich carbs and omega 3 fats. Our perspectives can also be shaped by the populations we see. He may encounter more people who are overdoing protein, while many people I see in my practice aren’t getting enough and aren’t resistance training consistently. But there is a lot of protein hype online and that’s why fiber is having its moment. The protein RDA is 0.8g/kg (0.36g/lb), but research continues to question whether that’s optimal, especially for resistance training, preserving muscle during weight loss + healthy aging. That’s why 0.7 to 1 g/lb of your current or realistic goal weight is a practical range. That doesn’t mean everyone needs 1g/lb, but it’s an easy calculation to understand and remember. When I work with patients, I always give them a range based on their goals, health and current intake. Most people also aren’t getting enough fiber. Around 30 grams per day is a good general goal, but I talk a lot on my page about why more fiber may be beneficial and why fiber variety is extremely important. Go slow and steady with any nutrition change, and work with a dietitian if you needhelp determining what’s appropriate for your body and goals. I see patients 1:1 🩷 #protein #fiber #nutrition
