I was reading about a prop trader in Market Wizards who chose the quieter Princeton office over Manhattan because the best trader was there—and because there were fewer distractions. While other people were going out drinking, he stayed in and worked. Then I watched a Shohei Ohtani documentary. Same pattern. His teammates would go out. He’d train, recover, lift, and keep preparing. Not because fun is bad. Because he knew what he wanted more. That idea stuck with me.
