My only question is if those dial indicators can even respond fast enough. I would prefer a high speed, non-mechanical way to measure the runout. Even the slight inertia of the parts in those dial indicators are a problem at that rpm.

Both dial indicators are on stationary parts of the lathe, and pushed all the way to the positive range. so movement on the dial is not possible.

At that speed it wouldn’t register a minor difference. Turn the piece by hand and you may get a different result
