umm as a mother of 2 (adult) children. for real, I had to work for both of their lives. I missed so many firsts. it's called life. you're not going to make every single "first" moments. maybe compromise and have the grandma take videos (which wasn't a huge thing when my kids were little, phones were expensive and I couldn't always own a cell phone, cameras weren't as good back then, etc. I came to terms id miss some things. that mama needs to accept that she is lucky that she can be home with her children in this society! and if she is SO paranoid about "missing" firsts, then I guess she doesn't need a break she can have her children 100% of the time! until she decides to be flexible. this is so stupid honestly!

She doesnt need to babysit this much for someone thats a SAHM to one child anyways. Maybe once a week to catch up on chores and self care. This is ridiculous.

NTA!!! The daughter in law needs to get her ass up and start doing all these first!! Lolol - cannot just have grandma stay home with a bored baby. I would just go do whatever and not tell her. Jeezus lord micromanaging your babysitting time.

Just tell her you can’t watch him because you’re afraid she’ll miss a first. Maybe he’ll catch a frog or a bug, fall down, etc. you can’t take that risk.

Tell your dil you are going to the park. Invite her to go along. You're bringing a picnic lunch and will be there to pick her up at 11. If she doesn't want to go her loss. Take your grandson and go have fun!

So basically what dil is saying is that nobody else is allowed to share a "first time" experience with her child unless she is present. Not only is that extremely selfish on her part but if she isn't going to do those things with her child as well then she is ruining her child's chances of experiencing new things and genuinely have fun. That child is going to grow up resenting her for keeping them from doing anything new without her.
