IDK what I expected, but I should’ve known not to expect anything less from Blake. I was certainly blown away. This satirical book is about power, ambition, womanhood, and everything that entails. The vibes are unsettling with a lot of subtle foreshadowing that gave me a foreboding sense since the beginning. Like something was off but we don’t immediately know what it is. It felt like dark academia, minus the magic. Nina and Sloane are MCs with common problems which make them relatable and easy to follow while navigating thought-provoking topic around women: the pressure, the never-ending expectations, the sacrifice of motherhood, and the roles of traditional vs modern women. It was eye-opening and gave me so much to think about. Reminded me of a sentence I read on socmed a while ago: “a top-tier man is just an average woman”. Because exactly. And why??? The narrative is sharp and witty, like Blake did not hold back AT ALL and I love that! I annotated the hell out of this book because it has soo many good bars (I featured some of my favorites on the carousel pics). Also every single one of the characters are connected which makes this satisfying to read. They did a great job at enriching the story. Some nitpicks from me: the ending felt too abrupt🙂 Things escalated quickly and suddenly it’s over. I was going crazy. I need more details!! Same with the actual “dinner”, it felt a little underwhelming IMO. I understand that it’s not the point but I still wanted more details lol. And I didn’t fully get the sorority politics aspect, but okay. Took me a while to read and digest this book but all things considered, I enjoyed it a lot. I’m in awe of the author’s mind, truly. Btw I the audiobook was also gooddd I like the narrators especially Sloane’s narrator🫶🏼 Thank you @panmacmillanexport for this stunning review copy. Girl Dinner is OUT NOW✨ #girldinner #olivieblake #panmacmillanexport #panmacmillanambassador #bookreview
