Built between 1904 and 1907 in what was then called Verny, the cathedral was designed with remarkable engineering techniques by Andrei Zenkov, specifically adapted to the earthquake-prone region. And there is an incredible story behind it: in January 1911, a devastating earthquake struck the region. While many buildings in the city were destroyed, the wooden cathedral survived with only minor damage. Its flexible structure helped it withstand the powerful shaking. During the Soviet period, the cathedral was closed and used for secular purposes. It was eventually returned to the Russian Orthodox Church in 1995 and restored for worship.
