To dispel the myth of the sluggish A340-300: It's simply false that the A340 is underpowered. First of all, you have to know the specifications. This refers to V1. From V1 onwards, the aircraft MUST still be able to take off even if ONE engine fails. However, if an engine fails before reaching V1, there must still be enough runway for braking. This means that a twin jet would only have 50 percent power available if one engine fails. Now, an A340-300 would still have some reserves if ONE engine fails. Incidentally, all four-engine jets are so "sluggish." For the reasons already mentioned. And it's also actually false that the A340-300 uses the same engines as an A320. CFM56-5b(5a) is not CFM56-5C2. It's that simple. Except that the A340-600 uses Rolls-Royce Trent engines. You are welcome! With pleasure!

I was on a A340-300 out of Zurich. The way I thought we were going to runway overrun. Not to mention after take off, it felt as we were barely over the tree line. One and only time I’ve ever held my seat.
