@englishwithrhys: Stop mixing up "so" and "so that". Here is the quick rule to remember: "So" introduces a result. It tells us what happened next. Example: It started raining, so I opened my umbrella. "So that" introduces a purpose. It tells us your goal or intention. Example: I opened my umbrella so that I wouldn't get wet. Top tip: If the next part of your sentence uses a modal verb like "can", "could", or "would", you almost certainly need to use "so that". Test yourself in the comments: Fill in the blank: "I turned down the TV ________ the baby could sleep." -- Click the link in my bio to learn English with me. #english #englishclass #englishteacher
I TOOK an umbrella so that I WOULD be dry if iit RAINS. Are you talking about a siruation in the past( TOOK and WOULD) or in the present(RAINS).Which one is better between your sentence and mine-I TOOK an umbrella so that I WOULD be dry if it RAINED. Here I am talking about a whole apecific situation in the past. Thanks
