I agree w regard to their inability to be exploitative. But a pet is also a responsibility and a COST. Vet costs are rising. Every animal we choose to bring into our home deserves the best quality food, shelter, and vet care we can afford. Note I didn’t say we need to go into debt caring for them. But there is an agreement one makes when bringing a pet into the home: to care for them for the length of their natural lives. Regardless of illness or behavior problems. If you aren’t ready to make that commitment, do NOT get a pet.
