I do something similar. I track dishwasher power usage and when it drops below 5W I send an email to the kids to tell them it has finished so they empty it. it doesn't make them empty it....

Well, I also included a shopping list to my system, but it basically does everything outside of HA and just uses HA as shopping list display. It does some statistical magic to determine with sparse observations how much you're consuming, plus recipes, which you can plan in a calender on each day and mark as completed. Shopping list is then generated in about 3 seconds with the press of a button :)

I have a neff with a projection light that projects status and time to complete on the floor, can also track progress from SmartThings home connect app. Announcement on my phone and Alexa when finished .
