There is alot of evidence that many men who perpetrate DV use self harm as a control mechanism over their partners. Health professionals and authorities have to constantly walk a fine line between protecting the victims of DV. Without compromising that protection in our of the DV offenders mental health. For instance. DV offenders who murder someone are 2000% more likely to have threatened self harm. .. it is as much a warning sign of a priority need to protect women as a warning sign of the perpetrators mental health…. Bringing male mental health as an argument into the protecting women topic is akin to protecting a weapon of DV perpetrators as much as it is advocating for an alternate victim…. Dangerous. .

every single time I have clicked the profile of a man who's commenting about men's struggles on posts about women's issues, there are exactly zero posts spreading awareness, raising money, etc. I have yet to find an account that practices what they preach.

my ex was emotionally and verbally abusive and he used the threat of suicide as manipulation tactic. it was awful, suicide is a very important issue but when try to change the subject it feels like it’s a manipulation tactic. both things can be looked simultaneously.

Male suicide is more often quite violent too. If we actually worked towards a world without male violence, male suicide rates will likely fall too. Unfortunately you’re right, it’s used all too often to put women down. It’s so disappointing because we will never fix this problem when suicide and mental health is weaponised.

They do this to disrupt the conversation. It’s deflection, it creates a false equivalence to render the conversation on the original subject invalid. The purpose is to stop the conversation altogether, it’s manipulation.

they are 2 different conversations. Both are important. Personally I talk about mental health, alcoholism, recovery and hope. DV is also an important subject, that should be spoken about as well. The 2 conversations shouldn't detract from each other.
