@loudly.leo: After hearing from many of you, and hearing your similar experiences, I decided to finally share my own. When we live in a country that lacks the resources to help our children, and hold the adults in their lives accountable, kids slip through the cracks, and ultimately pay the price. Victims and survivors deserve better. #abuse #survivor #trauma #childhoodtrauma #healing
I confided in my sister because I thought she was being abused as well. she told a school counselor, and cps went to the house, never mentioning me. That day we were picked up at the end of the long driveway by my mother and step father. She says that cps came and they only discussed my sister, he turned and was screaming so loud that he never touch any of us, I called him a liar. Him and my mother left the house for hours. I was then awoken by both of them sitting on my bed. I just scream to get him away from me. She dropped him off at his mother. The next day I came home from school and my dad was there to pick me up because my mother kicked me out. She stayed with him until he failed a polygraph test. To this day she still thinks she did nothing wrong. I have been no contact with her for years and she will never met my daughter. I will always believe my daughter. I will always believe all survivors.

I'm sorry. I had a similar experience with CPS. I remember how it felt to have to learn as a child that no one was going to help me. No one was coming to save me, even the people who's whole ass job is doing exactly that.

cps "interviewed" me at the table with my mother and step father sitting right next to me. I had to lie because of that and despite having a black and blue foot with a broken toe at the time, they never asked to see or to watch me walk. That was the end of it. CPS is useless. I hope they help some people, but I think they probably hurt more of us. They should not function the way they do

it's been 21 years since CPS believed me... now... if everyone else in my family would.

I had a breakdown in front of my teacher because I had to get a note signed by my parents for not doing homework.
I told her how my dad would beat me. Instead of reporting as required, she called my parents; not only telling them what I had said, but called me a liar.
My mom told me I'm lucky my teacher didn't believe me because CPS would have taken my and my siblings away and I would never see them again.
The beatings didn't stop right away; but they did begin becoming rarer as they found other ways to mess with me.

yep cps would call my mom the day before showing up and let her know they were stopping by. she'd tell all of us that we would be put in an orphanage(not given to our fathers) and that they would be a lot worse than her so we better not say anything to cps. then she'd make us spend the whole day cleaning the house and when I told cps the truth they labeled me as a troubled teen because my siblings were too scared to say anything. I already knew I was going to be punished either way.

It's honestly ridiculous and sad how many people this has happened to. I know they do help some people but just because you're not living somewhere condemned or being physically harmed does not mean you don't need help. I showed them literal pictures of drugs in my home at 15 with a 9 year old brother and my mom was able to talk to them for 5 minutes and have the whole case dropped, just because she was well put together and nice. For 2 weeks after I had my door taken off the hinges and got screamed at every night. Again it's not the worst case situation but i was drowning in the house and even when I begged for help nothing came of it.

I remember being terrified every time I got called to the office as a kid, worried I might of said too much and had CPS waiting for me. this deep pit in my gut the whole way there and then having to put myself back together when I went to class like nothing happened. it's such an awful feeling and all I wanted was help.
I called them once but they wanted me and my sister to testify in court while living with them before they took us away.. we told them if the case stays open they knew we talked and it wasn't safe. my sister tried to end it in order to avoid it and we stopped talking and that's all they needed to close the case..

I remember raising my hand in school when they said raise your hand if your parents have ever spanked you so hard it left a mark and getting told to put my hand down and when I expressed confusion, they insisted I show them the marks and I was like "I'm not pulling my pants down in front of the entire school." and being so embarrassed I never brought it up again

this is such a standard experience. I remember my PE teacher reported an incident where I fainted and when she asked some questions it became obvious that my mother was encouraging a dangerous ED. Social services came up, opened the cupboard, wrote "food in house" and never came back. Never investigated WHY my mum wanted me to look as small and as childlike as possible, never investigated the health implications of what that obsession was doing to me or my health. Just assumed I lied to my teacher to enable my ED and washed their hands of me.

Cps laughed with and shook hands with my abusive ex in front of my kids. I have two restraining orders against him now on behalf of my kids. Cps is bs

I was also told by my ab*sers that ab*se only looked one way. I didn't realize I was being horribly ab*sed until I was 16 and started looking into stuff online but it didn't sink in until I was 19. I'm still unlearning it all.

Yes and they also protect abusers and make the abuse worse. Seeing the liars get protected and the ones who tell the truth gets punished by the system. I wish I could sue them for the compounded abuse that my daughters and myself suffered

great job i never saw a cps worker. the school took pictures if my arms and back still bleeding from my mother beating me with a rubber hose . i was 16, and after 20 lashes i stoof up and told her she would never hit me again. i grabbed it out of her hand, and said never again. i stayed on that till she died.

The amount of people i wish i could get a one- on- one with now, as an adult, to tell them off to their faces... like...i actually have heard their lukewarm excuses. But i just want to unleash my ire (verbally, mind you). To this day being accused of lying or saying i said something i never said are my two biggest triggers.

this is why when people say we need to have more checks in place I think that it's just bullshit. because even when they have evidence and they're told that this is happening they don't give a shit.

I used to be mandated reporter. In my experience calling CPS was a double edged sword. Because once the parent finds out the abuse gets worse. And if they don’t find enough evidence the kids gets punished. We need a better system.
