In my decade of veterinary medicine I learned that the loss of a pet is oftentimes harder than the loss of a human. Our pets never let us down. They never betray us. They never lie to us. They only love us with everything they have. It’s a profound loss. I’m thinking about you ❤️

I can’t bring myself to delete my soul dog’s alarm for his seizure meds. It’s been 7 years.

Please don’t feel ridiculous- it’s losing a piece of your soul. The date markers like first month, first 6 months etc are the worse. Be gentle with yourself lovely ❤️

We lost our sweet Mia 3 years ago. I miss her every day. She touched every person that ever came in contact with her.

She may not your next dog but she’ll be your grief dog because you both have gone through grief together. She’ll hear your cry and try to comfort you. You’ll see her harder moments when she has her surgery and comfort her. Honeycomb is the perfect dog for your grief right now

My dog Max had diabetes and I gave him insulin every evening at 7:10. It’s been two years since he passed, and my phone alarm still goes off every evening at 7:10, just so I can pause whatever I’m doing, and think about him ❤️❤️

It was the camera roll for me. The fact that every picture I took, I had to scroll farther and farther to find a picture of him. For weeks, I would take a picture and send it to my husband, so I could delete it on my phone.

Grief is not linear. Some days you will carry it, and some days it will carry you. Both are part of healing

My soul dog Susan passed away three years ago and I’d always pictured my wedding with her there, along with every other major life event. Losing her is by far the worst thing that’s ever happened to me. We just got married last weekend and little pieces of her were woven into the whole day & I knew she was there, within us and within all the other guests who loved her. We even had multiple unplanned Susan toasts ❤️Simon will be there with you, no matter what, even though it feels impossible to imagine ur wedding without him physically present, he’s there

my dog was my soulmate and had dementia. I had to put him to sleep when I was 16 weeks pregnant. my boy has my dogs name as his middle name.

After my dog was killed (unexpectedly, of course) what I found so painful was the way the signs of his existence started to disappear. There was a little indented path on my lawn from where he’d perform his unofficial ‘guard dog’ duties every day, running back and forth to ‘protect the perimeter’. He was a schnauzerpoo of about 14 lbs. If I could have cemented that little path instead of watching it slowly fill in, I would have.

Losing a pet is one of the worst things in the world. I lost my first dog over 10 years ago and I still cry randomly. Grief is just love with nowhere to go.

Im so sorry. It’s normal for grief to come in waves. My three dogs passed away in the same year 3 years ago and I am still not the same.

7:30 was the time I gave our boy his seizure meds. That alarm is still in my phone. It’s not set but 2.5 years later, I still can’t bring myself to delete it. 🥺
