we can't just cap profits. we just need to nationalize it/socialize it like any sane person would.

We need an IRS-like agency for every industry that is allowed a legal monopoly. Their profit rates need to be regulated, and audits of their expenditures need to be conducted every year. I know for example that Xcel spends millions on equipment rentals every year because the equipment rental fees are tax deductible, and thus owning and maintaining equipment is less profitable than renting tons of equipment instead. Also, because it’s tax deductible, rental companies with contracts with Xcel typically charge double or triple normal prices, because like with military contracts, the customer LIKES paying more, because there’s actual benefits for them if they overpay with taxpayer dollars.

Those $22 million salaries are ridiculous. It’s not like generating electricity is some cutting edge technology. All they need to do is literally keep the lights on. And weigh potential benefits from slightly newer technologies like wind and solar.

but how do we convince the less aware old people that this socialistic plan / policy on these monopolies is good for everyone and not a ploy for communism to reign supreme !?! 😳

WV has some of the highest electricity rates in the country despite having some of the poorest populations. That’s why my campaign is fighting for a truly public option that puts power back in the hands of the people. ❤️thank you for being such an inspiration, Mr. Reich!

A lot of Indiana's utilities are government-granted monopolies, I'm not sure they've ever voted down a rate increase. And Gary is still without power two weeks after a storm.
