@alanonai: Engineering for Vibe Coders: Vercel If you are vibe coding, there is a pretty good chance your app is running on Vercel. And it is easy to understand why. Connect GitHub. Push your code. And suddenly your app is live. But there is a trap hidden in how easy that is. You can start assuming that because Vercel can run something, that means it should run there. Your frontend? Sure. An API request? Maybe. A long-running AI process? A background job? A persistent connection? Now we need to think about it. Because Vercel is not just a magic button that puts your code on the internet. It is an execution environment with real limits and architectural tradeoffs. That is an important shift from vibe coding to engineering. Do not just ask, “Can I deploy this here?” Ask, “Is this where this workload actually belongs?” Link in comments #ai #vibecoding #coding #programming
Been using vercel since before vibe coding was a thing still use it to this day.

vercel and supabase are good because they manage things for you. reduces the surface to maintain.

I used vercel because it's cheap option to host our apps.

Interesting point on Vercel and long-running/background tasks. I wonder if that part may be based on older limits though? Vercel Functions with Fluid Compute now default to 300 seconds, and Pro/Enterprise can run supported Node.js/Python functions up to 30 minutes. They also now have Workflows and Queues specifically for durable background jobs. So the old “10-second serverless timeout” criticism seems much less applicable to the current platform. Curious whether you’d still see this as a major limitation with the newer architecture?

Learning how to actually use a database and learning sql even if you vibecode your whole website or web app could be a lot more secure better and you learn how to manage a database

I encountered the 10 second job limit early on but then railway came to the rescue to run a lightweight express server there with the frontend just in Vercel. Great combo. But if AWS goes down you’re fucked 😂

As somebody who manages a fleet of 5 VPSes, Vercel/Supabase is the way to go unless you have TIME, ENERGY and SKILLS to maintain 5 computers remotely. Auth/identity management, databases, docker containers, secrets management, documentation, etc. It’s significantly more than I imagined when I started out. I do manage my own company products + client stuff, so theres a lot going on. But just be aware of the maintenance tax for VPSes/bare metal - it’s real!
