When our daughter was having life threatening medical issues that were stretching our budget and ability to work and care for her beyond what we could figure out to budget, we quit tithing. The pastor and some elders confronted my husband on multiple occasions about how “godly men” still trust god and tithe through the bad times and it’s pleasing to god when we trust him and obey him, even when the math doesn’t make sense and that’s how god works miracles. It felt like they were implying god would withhold healing for our daughter if we didn’t tithe. Anyways, we stopped attending church for many reasons and we definitrly dont tithe, but we do give what we used to give to the church to different places in our community doing good work. I feel like our money is better spent there than it was in the church.

The prosperity gospel is actively killing Christianity. I don’t even know the theological backing for this because Jesus was all about distributing goods/wealth throughout the community not giving it to modern day corporations posing as churches. That last part was pointed but I tend to feel that way especially since the emergence of the mega churches

He’s not saying you need to tithe to God he’s saying you need to tithe to me. Because he said specifically they need to tithe to this church probably to increase his salary. If he actually valued tithing he would be telling them they could support a Christian charity or a missionary. But he doesn’t actually care, this is a deeply selfish request.

I follow and respect you, just wish you wouldn't say "Christians ", be more specific. tons of us Christians on the progressive side aren't in line with that sort of belief or rhetoric.
