@therapytothepoint: If you know someone who constantly corrects the way you speak, you know how incredibly annoying it can get. Correcting someone’s pronunciation or the way they phrase something when you already understand what they mean can feel incredibly condescending. After a while, people may start filtering themselves around you because they feel like every conversation is being judged. Good communication is about understanding the person in front of you, not making sure they said everything perfectly. If this is a habit you have, it may be worth paying attention to. And if you’ve been on the receiving end of it, you probably know exactly how irritating it can be. #communicationskills #communicationtips #healthyrelationships #socialskills
I don't correct them, I just say the same word correctly in a sentence and hope that they catch it

I also don’t believe it’s right to allow the people you care about and love be incorrect about things either. There’s an appropriate time to correct them or bring it up, but I agree that if all you are looking to do is correct them and not actually listen and understand the other persons perspective your advice applies.

No. With the increasing levels of low literacy rates in this country, I will continually correct anyone, written or verbalized. What I won't do is be an a-hole about it, because that way, when the individual who gets upset at me for correcting them brings it up, I'll can double down and point out their projection isn't my issue to resolve.

I needed to hear this because as an older sibling parentified child I always feel like it’s my responsibility to help my siblings grow, learn new skills and learn things that will help them in life. But I am so guilty of this and I know it’s uncomfortable for my siblings to tolerate.

I only do that with my family because I don't want them to repeat the mistake with strangers and be ridiculed.

Wait, is this a widespread thing that’s happening? If so, that’s insane. Guys, read the room 😂 Accuracy is important but it isn’t everything. The overall idea will always be more important than minor mispronunciations.

Correcting other people requires for the other person to understand his/her level of relationship, including the context of their topic. Connecting has a lot of elements from both sides....and that's thw comfortability to discuss wrong things that truly takes time.

If they don’t realise what they’re saying is wrong then they obviously won’t ask for it be corrected.

I try to just say it the correct way when I reply, so that they can hear the right way to say it offhandedly and it doesn't feel like an attack.

I will admit I do this and should do it less. I don't do it to gain upper ground; my partner has trouble communicating and I don't want people to think less of her so I do it believing it will eventually save her from my extremely judgemental family (whom I hate), who may think less of her for her poor communication skills (and her perceived intelligence also reflects on anyone who associates with her). Her communication is often so poor that it genuinely encourages *more* interrogation from most people she talks to
