@yasarahmad_: Someone throws you under the bus in front of your manager. Say this and watch them regret it. Three phrases. Use them in order. Phrase one. In the moment. Don't react. Don't defend yourself. Let them finish. Then say this. "I appreciate you raising that. I'd want to make sure we've got the full picture before we draw conclusions. Can we look at this together?" They threw you under the bus. You just drove it back over them professionally. And your manager saw the whole thing. Phrase two. When your manager pulls you aside. Don't vent. Don't list everything they've done wrong. Say this. "I want to give you an accurate picture, not a reactive one. Can I come back to you tomorrow once I've pulled the facts together?" Measured. Controlled. You just bought yourself time while they're sitting with the version of themselves your manager already witnessed. Phrase three. The follow up. Just you and your manager. Say this. "Here's what happened, here's my part in it, and here's what I'd do differently. What I'd push back on is the framing that this was down to me alone." You've owned your part. That builds credibility. Then you've pushed back on the narrative without once attacking the person who created it. Your manager isn't just hearing your side now. They're deciding what kind of person you are under pressure. Stay calm. Deal in facts. Own what's yours and only what's yours.
