How my AI employees learn from their mistakes — the 4-write loop (and the rule nobody teaches) The exact loop that makes an AI actually learn from its mistakes — the one my AI employees run to come back sharper every week. How my AI employees learn from their mistakes — the 4-write loop (and the rule nobody teaches) The exact loop that makes an AI actually learn from its mistakes — the one my AI employees run to come back sharper every week. Researchers proved it makes agents 14% better with zero retraining. Here's the whole thing: The idea: an AI is only as good as what's written in its files. So you build a loop that saves the RIGHT things, the right way. Four "writes": WHILE IT WORKS → the moment something durable shows up (a decision, a preference, a rule), it goes straight into the AI's memory file. The rule: if it won't change future behavior, don't save it. No diary of the day. THE SWEEP → a small, cheap model reads the conversation, pulls out what's worth keeping, checks it against the files, and updates them (update — don't pile on top). Run it right before a long chat gets compressed AND when it ends — that's exactly where details vanish. THE SLEEP PASS → once a night, a stronger model goes through the memory files like your brain does in sleep: merges duplicates, resolves contradictions (newest wins), turns ten messy notes into one clean rule. YOUR CORRECTIONS (the big one) → you don't fill out a form. You correct it in the chat like you'd correct a person — "never send that without asking me first." The sweep catches it and saves it with two things attached: WHY it was wrong + HOW to do it right next time. The rule that makes it stick: if the mistake was in HOW a task is done, put the fix in the SKILL — the instructions that get read every time the task runs — not in some memory diary it might never reopen. Guardrails so you don't poison it: every memory gets a date + a source, nothing's saved as "fact" until it's confirmed, money/identity stuff waits for your approval, and it all lives in plain files you can open and delete. The scoreboard: does it make the same mistake twice? That's the whole test. #aiagents #aiemployee #aiteam
