Instead, Louis helped his mother with things he felt comfortable handling while giving himself space when he needed it. Bullock said she also tried to let both children guide the difficult conversations. If they noticed something or asked a question, she would explain what was happening and ask how they wanted to deal with it. Randall had chosen to keep his ALS diagnosis private, and Bullock and his family honored that wish throughout his treatment.
