I remember learning about how "American campaigning" worked when I was small as like a wild concept, because instead of one party going "I'm gonna help the people with this" and the opponent answering with "well I'm gonna help the people more!" the us campaigns were like 90% "This is all the ways my opponent is a horrible and incapable person who should never be in office" (and learning that this was the result of only having two parties). And I feel like maybe this type of discussions and debates online that you're talking about is a result of how exposed everyone is to the American political landscape compared to actual good discussion and debate-etiquette.

hot take: the fact that people can't read a book without a main character that they like is the same reason why people don't appreciate the fourth book of hunger games. Simply because the pov is coming from a dictator. which okay I get it, I hate snow too, but it's interesting to read how a dictator thinks and acts in order to avoid to have one at the government. And by the look of it, it seems people are not keen to do that, seeing who the president of US is. (sorry for my bad English)

This problem also reached YouTube. The amount of disclaimers content creators have to make now is so annoying, really. Every video commentary nowadays has the creator constantly repeating "to me, personally" "I'm not saying that..." "So, what I'm saying is actually...", just because some people lack literacy in general and are committed to misunderstand what u're saying.

I saw a video of a girl saying that she wanted to make dinner but realized that she didn't have much at home to prepare something. Then she grabbed her almost empty pasta jar and said something like "I'll try to make pasta but i have only like 6 pastas left" then she emptied the jar and started cooking the pasta. MANY people in the comments deadass COUNTED every single pasta noodle and said "there are more than 6". Like people can't even understand that it was just an expression and an exaggeration 💀💀💀💀
