@gistwirenaija: Nigerian student Maryam Ibrahim Dan-Azumi has won ₦120 million, approximately $80,000, at the 46th King Abdulaziz International Qur’an Recitation Competition in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. The Gombe State native emerged first in the category for memorisation of 60 Hizb of the Qur’an with Tajweed and Tafsir, scoring an impressive 97.70 marks. Maryam competed against 334 contestants from 133 countries, making the achievement even more remarkable. The 2026 edition also marked the first time female contestants participated in the competition’s 46-year history. She is a student of Abubakar Siddiq Community School for Qur’an Memorisation in Gombe State.
