@insane.cb: Nature almost never works in perfectly straight lines—especially when it comes to rivers. 🌊 Even if a river starts out completely straight, tiny disturbances like a fallen tree, a animal burrowing into the riverbank, or differences in soil density will slightly disrupt the water flow. Once the water shifts off-center, fast-moving currents begin eroding the outer bend of the riverbank, while slower water deposits sediment on the inner bend. Over time, this continuous erosion and deposition push the river into wider loops and S-curves (meanders). Eventually, when two loops bend so far that they touch, the river cuts straight through the shortcut, leaving behind a crescent-shaped body of water known as an oxbow lake! It’s an endlessly dynamic cycle of fluid dynamics and geology shaping the earth’s surface right before our eyes. #ScienceFacts #Geography #Physics #Nature #LearnOnInstagram

We don't have beavers in new Zealand

So that thing caused all the problems and changed our geography.

Gee :

Because of the velocity of the water & erosion that take place

so if not for the mighty south American beaver and the elusive north African beaver, the Amazon and Nile rivers would be straight? a new TikTok lesson in physics, geography, and animal sciences.
